Community service orders

During 2012–13, the median sentence length for community service orders was 81 hours. This varied by principal proven offence:
  • acts intended to cause injury was 100 hours (3,733 defendants or 21%);
  • traffic and vehicle regulatory offences was 100 hours (2,901 defendants or 16%);
  • theft was 52 hours (2,093 defendants or 12%);
  • unlawful entry with intent was 62 hours (1,688 defendants or 10%); and
  • dangerous or negligent acts endangering persons was 90 hours (1,177 defendants or 7%). (Table 54)
